Murphys, CA — Several people have stepped up to help make this year’s Irish Day in Murphys happen. The event faced cancellation due to lack of volunteers, this year it will be held Saturday, March 16.
Murphys Business Association president Jim Heryford says, “Fortunately, several community minded people have stepped up and everything is a ‘go’.”
Michelle Plotnik, who has been in charge of overall planning and coordination for many years will be assisted by Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program’s programs coordinator, Colleen Dolan.
The Murphys Volunteer Fire Department is again in charge of handling the hundred-plus vendors who will line Main Street.
Gerry, co-president of the Murphys Community Club, and Carrie Nelson, former executive director of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, will put together this year’s Murphys Irish Day parade.
Leanne Smith, Realtor and Murphys shop owner, will find Murphys Irish Day sponsors. Ford says, “Sue Friedman, Murphys Community Club co-president did a yeoman job getting sponsors in years past.”
In addition to the new people helping to organize Murphys Irish Day, event celebration veterans are continuing to serve. Richard and Barbara Nauman, as is tradition, will be the “trash mavens,” making sure that the Main Street area is pristine.
Heryford says, “It takes a lot of good people, doing important work, to make Murphys Irish Day the success it has become.” He adds, “We are fortunate to have such a good crew.”
