Sewer Moratorium Lifted

San Andreas, CA – The Calaveras County Water District or CCWD has lifted the moratorium on sewer connections for the Douglas Flat/Vallecito area.

“All the hard work of the District’s staff and the Douglas Flat/Vallecito community to upgrade the plant with 100% grant monies is continuing to pay off.” said Board President Dennis Dooely.

The new wastewater treatment plant which was constructed with that grant from the State Water Resources Control Board has been up and operating well since November 2012. Just this month the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board approved a new discharge permit for the plant due to the recent upgrade. This permit has allowed the District to lift the moratorium.

Dooley also says “The effluent from this plant is high-quality water that is usable for agricultural irrigation. CCWD will be exploring ways to get it to potential agricultural users.”
CCWD says this will allow residents or businesses to connect to the sewer system instead of having to get a septic tank.
