Prescribed Burn Delayed

Yosemite, CA — Because of the threat of wet weather, Yosemite National Park has postponed plans for a prescribed burn.

The park had planned to start burning 150 acres this morning near the town of Wawona. Yosemite Ranger Scott Gediman says the burn has been postponed because of the possibility of rain or even snow. He says the park will try to reschedule the burn sometime within the next few weeks.

Once started, it will take about two weeks to complete. Smoke from the fire will be visible throughout the park, but noticeably in the southern portion. The Wawona prescribed fire will be the first of the 2013 prescribed burning season.
