Business is beginning to recover in Calaveras County and the Chamber of Commerce has recently been adding nearly an average of one new member per week.
Calaveras Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Diane Gray, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
“The recession has been agonizing for everyone but business throughout the county is slowly coming back. And our membership is climbing back towards our pre-recession mark of over 400 members,” said Gray.
In addition to the growing membership, the Chamber recently took over the operations of the county’s Economic Development Company.
“Our work always overlapped,” says Gray. “It seemed like a really good idea to combine the two organizations.”
The Economic Development Corporation operates out of the Chamber’s office in San Andreas.
There are numerous challenges and factors for operating business in Calaveras and several issues have been discussed during recent summits and forums with local government officials (such as Supervisors). The Chamber, is and will continue to be actively involved with this process.
Meanwhile, Gray also anticipates being busy herself in the months ahead.
Part of her busy schedule includes this weekend’s Calaveras Home & Garden Show on April 27 & 28, 2013 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds (Frogtown), which is presented by the Chamber.
“We sold out and have over fifty vendors”, said Grey. “We’ll have something for everybody”.
Grey reminds the public that the parking is free and so is the admission. Saturday 10am – 6pm. Sunday 11am – 4pm.
Also, the annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, which raises money for Scholarships, is set for Friday, June 21st at Sequoia Woods Golf Course. The Golf Tournament is a scramble format and the Tee Time is 1:00 pm with a shotgun start. A Bar-b-Que follows.
