Total Take Back Priceless

Sonora, CA — That is what the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has to say about its “Drug Take Back” events. During those events, the public brought used or expired prescription drugs to be collected and properly destroyed, no questions asked. Sheriff’s Officials say that keeps the drugs out of the hands of children or those who might abuse or try to sell the medication. It also protects the environment from contamination as many people flush drugs down the toilet to get rid of them.

The events were spread out over the past two and a half years. The most recent one was held in April at the Junction Shopping Center in Sonora. The Sheriff’s Office released this statement with the results from all the events:

Total pounds collected during 11 “Drug Take Back” days since 2010 = approximately 2,524 pounds of medication collected & properly disposed,

Total value getting prescription medication off the streets and maintaining a safe drug-free community in Tuolumne County = PRICELESS.

The Sheriff’s Department has teamed up with the Yes Partnership to host the events. The YES Partnership is a community coalition working to prevent substance and child abuse in Tuolumne County.
