Arson Prosecutor Assigned To Karlsen Case

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County District Attorney has appointed a prosecutor to investigate the fiery death of a Murphys woman more than a decade ago. The Associated Press reports the prosecutor has experience in arson investigations and will look into the Karl Karlsen case.

Karlsen is standing trial in New York for the murder of his son. He was also the center of an investigation by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department into his wife Christina’s death. Christina died in a fire at her Murphys home in 1991. That report was turned over to Calaveras County DA Barbara Yook’s Office in April. (Click here for an earlier story on that investigation)

According to the Record of Stockton the prosecutor is Deputy District Attorney Jeff Stone who is also a fire chief. Yook’s would not say if Karlsen will be prosecuted for the death of his wife.
