Yosemite, CA — Yosemite has scheduled a prescribed burn for mid-month.
111 acres will be burned in Yosemite Valley in the Taft Toe area. The burn is scheduled to start on, or around, June 18th. Yosemite Officials say it will reduce the amount of vegetation around Southside Drive, and provide increased safety for hikers on nearby trails. The primary objective is to reduce the accumulation of small diameter mixed conifer trees, and reduce excessive dead and down woody debris.
The burn is weather permitting. Park officials report that the Taft Toe area has received two inches of springtime rain, so the moisture level is within a level they feel is acceptable for burning.
