Big Oak Flat, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has released new information about a fire we reported on earlier this week along Black Road in Big Oak Flat.
A deputy was the first to arrive at around 12:45am on Sunday morning to assist with the fire, and saw a couple of outbuildings and nearby vegetation up in flames. The deputy saw an elderly female, so he helped move her to a safe location.
The deputy then returned to the area of the fire to check on the occupants of a nearby house, and he heard a couple of “pops.” The deputy ran to the area of the sound and found a screaming female dragging a wounded dog. An off duty Sheriff’s Deputy was also in the area. He told the on-duty Sheriff’s deputy that he shot the dog because it was acting aggressively, and charged him, while he was standing with an older couple and watching the fire.
The female with the dog was very upset, and soon another man came from the area of the house and started acting aggressively towards the deputies. The on-duty deputy used a taser on the man, who was later identified as Robert Bostic. Bostic was taken to Tuolumne County Jail.
The shooting of the dog is currently under investigation. Sgt. Oliver says the dog was a mixed breed that looked similar to a pitbull and it died a short while later. The off duty deputy’s name has not been released.
