Sacramento, CA — The state’s largest public employee union has reached a tentative deal with Governor Jerry Brown on a new three year contract.
It includes raises for the 95,000 state workers with Service Employees International Union Local 1000. The workers would receive a 4.5% pay hike by July 1, 2015. The Associated Press reports that it could go into effect sooner if state revenues hit certain targets. State workers included in the proposal will vote on approving the contract during the week of June 24th.
The agreement also promises no furloughs over a three year period. The SEIU contract could be used as leverage for other state unions also hoping for pay increases.
