Update Mariposa & Madera Fires

Mariposa County, CA — Cal Fire reports one is growing while another is close to being contained. The Carstens wildfire east of Highway 140 near Midpines and on the main route into Yosemite National Park is still growing as it enters its third day. Cal Fire reports nearly 150 residents have been driven from their homes in the in the Hites Cove, Jerseydale and Scott Road area. The weather is expected to help out a bit. Temperatures are expected to drop by 10 degrees as humidity rises slightly today in the fire zone near Mariposa. The flames have burned 1600 acres which is about 2.5 square miles. The Associated Press reports one resident said she knew the fire was headed for her home when she saw charred leaves drifting at her. The Carstens fire is 15 percent contained at this time. Down in Madera County, the Rolling Fire has burned 482 acres and its 95% contained. It is located off Highway 41. Click here to view a map.
