Deputy Injured Near Bear Valley

Bear Valley, CA — An on-duty Alpine County Sheriff’s Deputy was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident over the weekend.

The CHP reports that Karl Benson of Markleeville was attempting to turn around on the frozen Mosquito Lake, and his 2010 Ski-Doo rolled over, pinning him underneath. Deputy Benson was airlifted to Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada. The accident was reported at 2:21pm on Sunday afternoon.

Mosquito Lake is located east of Bear Valley.
