Snowy End To Ski Season

Twain Harte, CA – Both Dodge Ridge and Bear Valley announced the last day of the 2012 Ski season as April 15th.

According to Dodge Ridge spokeswoman, Amber Jenquin, “We are going to end a challenging year with a big bang.” Dodge Ridge and Bear Valley received just over 200 inches of snow this season. Average snowfall is between 300-500 inches. They are both planning many end-of-the-season events this weekend.

For Dodge Ridge this year’s January 25th opening date was the latest opening in 12 years. The earliest opening since 1950 was October 30th 2004. Last year the resort reported receiving an impressive 643 inches. Bear Valley also recorded last year’s unusually high snowfall at 567 inches for the season.

Jim Gentling, General Manager of Bear Valley says in his blog “I wanted to reach out and personally thank you all for the 75,000 visits you made to BV this winter, to those who would normally generate the other 55,000 visits, we missed you. Believe it or not you missed some great skiing/riding, as well as a season for the history books. I hope you have not given up the sport and will return next season.” Bear Valley opened this season on December 16th with man-made snow to make up for the lack of natural snowfall.
