Sonora, CA — A busy weekend is on tap for the two candidates vying to be the 2019 Mother Lode Roundup Queen.
16-year-old Rayna Rogers of Jamestown is a student at Sonora High School. She says, “I’ve always wanted to run for this contest. I’ve been around the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse for as long as I can remember. My family is actually a third generation posse family, and my sister (Karissa Rogers) was Mother Lode Roundup Queen a few years back.” Rogers is the daughter of Chris and Shasta Rogers.
19-year-old Lynsey Gookin is a student at Columbia College and sixth generation Tuolumne County resident. She says, “I’ve always admired the western way of life and the sport of rodeo. I really want to represent and be an advocate for those things. It would be such an honor.” Gookin is the daughter of Pete and Lynn Gookin.
The Horsemanship competition is scheduled for 10am on Saturday at the Posse Grounds on Rawhide Road. Then on Sunday at 5pm will be the Queen Coronation at the same location. Both events are free and open to the public.
