Officials say a Friday night fire in Mariposa did over a million dollars in damage.
The blaze destroyed seven businesses in a 9,000 square ft. building at the intersection of Highway 140 and 5th Street. It is a tough hit to the Mariposa economy, which relies heavily on tourist traffic into Yosemite National Park.
Among the businesses destroyed were the Pizza Factory and the Pony Espresso Coffee House and Trading Post. Firefighters say the cause of the blaze is unknown. Around 40 people were inside the Pizza Factory when the fire started. There were no reports of injuries. Highway 140 was closed down until Saturday afternoon as firefighters mopped up the blaze.
