Mariposa, CA — The CHP reports that $2 million worth of unique gems and gold were stolen from a state museum in Mariposa County.
They were taken from the California Mining and Minerals Museum. The Associated Press reports that robbers went in during daytime hours, armed with pickaxes, and threatened workers during the heist. No suspects have been identified, and the CHP reports that the investigation is ongoing.
It is noted that a well-known 14 pound gold piece, known as the Fricot Nugget, was not one of the pieces stolen.
