Sonora, CA — Gas prices have been shooting through the roof over the past couple of days.
AAA reports that the average price of regular unleaded in California increased eight cents yesterday to $4.32 a gallon. It is also up 18 cents over just the past week. The myMotherLode.com gas price section shows that regular unleaded in Sonora is selling anywhere from $4.01 to $4.61, with the median price at $4.25. In San Andreas, the price ranges from $4.19 to $4.55. There was a fire recently at a Bay Area refinery, and an extended power outage at another, which has slowed production.
Nationwide, the average price is $3.78 a gallon. The state uses a special cleaner burning fuel, which makes it difficult to bring in supply from refineries in other states.
Updated at 8:15am: AAA reports that the average statewide price this morning for regular unleaded has now jumped to $4.49 a gallon.
