Sonora, CA – Sonora Police report an officer spotted 35 year old Elvis Babcock walking in the downtown area around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The officer ran a check on Babcock and found he was wanted on felony drug warrant.
Police say Babcock saw the officer and tried to avoid him by walking faster. The Officer caught up to Babcock on S. Stewart Street near Gold Street and noticed he immediately put his hands in his jacket pockets. The officer ordered Babcock to take his hands out of his pockets, but he would not so the officer grabbed Babcock. They struggled until the officer was able to pull Babcock’s hands out of his pockets and hand-cuff him.
When the officer searched Babcock he found a prescription bottle full of methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe.
Babcock was charged with possession of a controlled substance, felony violation of probation, misdemeanor obstructing an Officer, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and for the outstanding felony drug warrant.
