Sacramento, CA — It appears that Calaveras County’s current U.S. House member will not return to the legislature.
Dan Lungren trailed Democratic challenger Ami Bera by 184 votes on Election Night, but the lead has now grown to 5,700 votes. The Secretary of State’s Office reports that there are still around 38,000 votes to count, but Bera’s margin at this point is nearly impossible to overcome. The Associated Press has called the race for Bera.
Lungren would not have represented Calaveras County by the time January rolled around anyway, as his new district is centered in the Sacramento region. Earlier this month Calaveras County helped elect Republican Tom McClintock to the newly drawn District Four congressional seat that covers much of the Sierra Nevada.
