Mariposa County State Of Emergency

Mariposa County has been granted a “State of Emergency” due to last week’s rain and high winds.

Acting Governor Abel Maldonado approved the declaration, at the request of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors. The declaration states that the winter storms “have been so punishing that the flood damage to homes, businesses and roads require ‘the combined forces’ of state and regional aid for providing relief.”

Last week’s storms caused flooding and rock slides in Mariposa County. Highway 140 was closed for over 24 hours due to a rock slide leading into Yosemite National Park.

Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties received “State of Emergency” declarations for storms that passed through the region in late November. The declaration enables counties to be eligible to receive state and/or federal funds to help with cleanup.
