Parrotts Ferry Closure Due To Shooting

Vallecito, CA — An Altaville man that led law enforcement officials on a high speed chase was shot by CHP officers on Parrotts Ferry Road.

The incident started late last night when at 10pm a Stockton CHP Officer pulled over 31-year-old Jon Ryan Young, who stated that he was on his way to Angels Camp. The Officer went back to his car and learned that Young had a warrant out for his arrest. When the officer went back to speak with him, Young drove away.

Calaveras County law enforcement officials were notified that Young was heading towards Angels Camp, and a deputy spotted him on Highway 4 near Copperopolis. The deputy followed Young into Angels Camp, where the Angels Camp PD joined in the pursuit. Officials continually tried to pull Young over, but he kept driving.

The pursuit went eastbound on Highway 4 to Red Hill Road and then over to Highway 49. The Angels Camp Police Department reports that Young, at one point, attempted to hit one of their patrol vehicles head-on. The pursuit went into Tuolumne County, so Sonora area CHP Officers joined in the chase. Young led officers through Columbia, and then turned back around and headed towards Calaveras County on Parrotts Ferry Road.

Young’s vehicle came to an abrupt stop on Parrotts Ferry Road near Moaning Cave Road, and then he allegedly backed up and struck a CHP vehicle. Fearing for their safety, Sonora area CHP officers fired multiple shots.

Young was taken to a Modesto area hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The names of the CHP officers that shot Young are being withheld by officials due to the ongoing investigation.

Parrotts Ferry Road remains closed this morning due to the investigation being led by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department. There is not an estimated re-opening time.
