Angels Camp, CA – Officials have determined what caused a fatal vehicle accident on Highway 49 Monday.
21-year-old Lisa Marie Wilson of Sonora was killed when her vehicle drifted into the opposing traffic lane and collided with a GMC pickup truck. The accident was at 7:35am near Cosgrave Road between San Andreas and Angels Camp.
“Lisa Marie’s mother did some checking into her cell phone records and it was determined that she was texting with her boyfriend at the time,” says CHP Officer Rebecca Myers. “The CHP really wants to emphasize the importance of ‘hands free’ driving if using a cell phone.”
The family told the CHP that it was okay to release their newly discovered information on Wilson’s death, so that the public can understand the dangers of texting on a cell phone while driving. Wilson left behind two young children.
CHP Officers Meyers and Mike Remmel will be Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
