Olsen Praises Wisconsin Governor

Sacramento, CA — Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen feels California needs to make reforms to the state’s public employee pension system.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has been in the national spotlight for his efforts to make pension reforms, and has received heavy praise from conservative leaders. On the flip side, it has led to massive pickets organized by union leaders outside the Wisconsin state capitol.

“I applaud the Governor of Wisconsin for his efforts, he’s had tremendous courage, and those are the types of things that we need to start working on in California,” said Olsen in a phone interview. “My Republican colleagues and I are working on a pension reform proposal, as well as proposals for providing relief to small businesses.”

Olsen feels the state’s current pension system is unsustainable.

“We have a $500 billion unfunded liability in our public pension system,” claims Olsen. “We have to deal with that head-on, and immediately.”

Olsen says she would also like to see regulatory relief for small businesses, and more of a focus on creating jobs in the state. Olsen, a Republican, represents the 25th Assembly District that covers Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.
