Tsunami Warning For California Coast

Following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan at 9:46 Pacific Time last night, a Tsunami Warning has been issued for the entire California coast.

The waves are expected to reach the San Francisco Bay Area at around 8am this morning. According to the National Weather Service, those living in tsunami warning areas near the beach or in low-lying regions “should move immediately inland to higher ground and away from all harbors and inlets.”

In San Francisco, officials have closed the upper and lower Great Highway, Ocean Beach, Baker Beach, China Beach and Fort Funston.

Tsunami waves started hitting the Hawaii coast early this morning.
