A cold low pressure system willl bring a return of wind, rain and snow to the Motherlode and the Sierra Nevada later this week.
Periods of snow with wind gusts in excess of sixty-five mph are possible in the Sierra on Wednesday night.
A foot of snow may fall above 7000 feet by Thursday morning, with scattered snow showers continuing into early Friday.
Avalanche danger will increase with the new snow and gusty winds.
Snow levels may drop to 1500 feet Thursday and Friday although little accumulation is expected at such low levels.
Isolated thunderstorms are also possible both Thursday and Friday.
