Jail Contract On Agenda

San Andreas, CA — Nine companies submitted bids to construct the Calaveras County Jail.

The lowest bid of $40.9 million is from Flintco Pacific, Incorporated. The firm is based out of Oklahoma and has an operating office in Sacramento. The Board of Supervisors will vote on Tuesday whether to approve Flintco as the low bidder. If so, the bid would be submitted to the State of California for review and authorization. Once that is completed, the item would come back to the Board of Supervisors for final approval of the contract.

A bid ranking committee is recommending that the Supervisors approve Flintco as the low bidder. The committee is made up of CAO Jeanne Boyce, Sheriff Gary Kuntz, Captain Ed Ballard, Public Works Director Tom Garcia and Project Director Doug Evans. Local tax dollars and State AB900 funding will pay for construction of the Adult Detention Facility. The project is expected to be completed in Spring of 2013.

Tuesday’s meeting begins at 9am at the Government Center in San Andreas.
