A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Sierra Nevada from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.
A cold, unstable low pressure system will bring possible heavy rain showers, hail, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds to the region.
Snow accumulations of an inch or two is possible near 3000 feet. Five to twelve inches of snow is expected above 5000 through 7000 feet.
Snow levels may begin around 4500 feet before dropping to 2500 through 3000 feet by Sunday evening.
Thunderstorms could cause soft hail or snow pellets to accumulate quickly on area roadways.
Thundersnow is also a possibility in the Sierra Nevada along with winds of twenty to forty mph. Wind gusts of forty to sixty mph are likely along the crest..
Icy roads may continue into Sunday night.
