Sonora Man Hurt In Accident

Sonora, CA — A Sonora man was seriously injured in a vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on Mono Way.

The CHP reports that 58-year-old Richard Klaverweiden was stopped westbound on Mono Way as he waited to turn onto the Highway 108 bypass. When the lighted arrow turned green, Klaverweiden proceeded, but was hit by an eastbound vehicle driven 21-year-old Dewey Staggs of Columbia. The CHP says that Staggs had failed to stop for the red light.

Klaverweiden was flown to Memorial Hospital in Modesto to treat major injuries. Staggs was not injured.

The accident was reported at 12:30pm.
