The U.S. Postal Service may close as many as 3,700 of its post offices later this year.
It equates to 12 percent of all post offices nationwide. Those being considered for closure locally include the post offices in Chinese Camp, Moccasin and at the Yosemite Lodge. The 3,700 post offices on the list will undergo a 60 day review period before any firm decision is made.
The Postal Service reported a loss of $2.6 billion for the quarter that ended March 31st and is looking at ways to cut costs.
