Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors are scheduled to vote Tuesday on a merger of Community Development Department and Public Works.
The County estimates that creating a new Community Resource Agency will save around $300,000 annually. The county lists multiple reasons for making the change. Funding for roads has been declining over recent years with the dive in the economy and loss of one-time state Proposition 1B funds. Also, the federal Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination funding is being phased out and set for potential elimination in 2012-13 ($500,000). The restructuring is also designed to streamline the development processes in the county.
County Administrator Craig Pedro is recommending the Community Development Director Bev Shane lead the new agency. Two weeks ago, longtime Public Works Director Peter Rei resigned from his position.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 9am in the Supervisors meeting room. You can listen live in the multimedia section of myMotherLode.com.
