Sonora, CA– This week the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved a construction contract for upcoming road work.
A contract in the amount of $137,596 was awarded to Sierra Mountain Construction to install rumble strips on Tuolumne Road and J-59.
The strips will be along 12.6 miles of J-59 and about 1.3 miles on Tuolumne Road. The rumble strip project is funded with a grant from the Highway Safety Improvement Program and with the Federal Highway Administration.
A rumble strip is a strip of corrugated pavement that causes rumbling and vibration when driven over. The American Traffic Safety Services Association has conducted studies that prove rumble strips to drastically reduce run-off road crashes and head-on collisions in a number of states.
The Tuolumne County Supervisors approved the contract rumble strip project 4-0.
