Sonora, CA — A Sonora man faces charges of forgery and possession of stolen property.
The Police Department reports that over the weekend 39-year-old Dylan Lay was caught on a surveillance camera stealing items from the Sonora Rite Aid, and then returning the goods for store credit. Officers went to Lay’s home on Sunday to ask him about it. The front door was open when they arrived, and Lay was allegedly sitting at a computer and altering a scanned receipt from Walmart. Lay refused to let officers inside, so a search warrant was quickly obtained. Officers went inside and found credit cards with other people’s names and a stolen check. They also located items that Lay purchased at Rite Aid with the store credit.
Lay was arrested and booked into County Jail.
