Tuolumne County District 5 Supervisor Dick Pland was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Pland was involved in forming the Economic Development Authority over two years ago.
“It’s a project that’s never done and fortunately we’ve got an excellent director in Larry Cope. If you’ve got economic development, you’ve got reasonable population growth, jobs for high school and college graduates and sales taxes coming into the county,” Pland said.
“Since the formation of the EDA, we’ve got some new businesses opening, business expansions and the (SPI) mill is back on line. A lot of things are happening, but it’s not to say that the problems are solved because it’s an ongoing continuos effort to promote economic development in Tuolumne County.”
According to Pland, the perception of Tuolumne County as not being a”business friendly” county has decreased over his fifteen years as Supervisor.
“We’ve got a Development Process Review Team that meets once a month with Administrator Craig Pedro and we have strongly focused on customer service.”
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
