Pile Burning Starting Soon

Groveland, CA– The Groveland Ranger District in the Stanislaus National Forest will be starting pile burning soon.

Burning is expected to start this month and continue through late spring of 2012. Piles will be located throughout the district and are expected to total an estimated 150 acres, according to the Forest Service.

Smoke may be visible in the Wildland Urban Interface areas of Hellshollow, Smith Station, Greely Hill, Wagner Ridge and other high use areas. Burning is contingent on weather, fuel moisture, and air quality.

Prescribed burning is an effective, cost efficient method of reducing flammable forest fuels, improving firefighting capabilities, and reducing the impacts of large, uncontrolled damaging wildland fires.
