California Shines In D.C

Washington, D.C– Today, the Mother Lode took center stage at the U.S Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Jazz @8 Choir from Summerville High School performed at the afternoon event.  The ceremony also featured Sonora second grader Johnny Crawford who had the honor of flipping the light switch with House Speaker John Boehner.

On hand for the celebration were state representatives Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congressman Dan Lungren and Congressman Jeff Denham.

“It truly is an honor to have the People’s Tree come from the 19th Congressional district in California,” said Congressman Denham. “And to to share a part of California not only with the rest of the nation, but with the rest of the world.”

The Capitol Christmas Tree traveled 4,500 miles from the Stanislaus National Forest and is decorated with more than 3,000 handmade ornaments. The tree will remain on display through January 1st.
