Sacramento, CA — A new political party will appear on the Presidential primary ballot next June.
California Secretary of State Debra Bowen said Monday that Americans Elect turned in more than 1 million signatures to secure a place on the June primary ballot. It is the first time since 1995 that a party will be added to the ballot. Americans Elect is designed to provide a middle ground between the Republican and Democratic parties.
American Elect’s nominee is required to pick a running mate from another party to symbolize bipartisanship. A spokesperson for Americans Elect told the Associated Press that they have received numerous donations from members of both major political parties.
