Vallecito, CA – Vandalism at the Vallecito post office near Angels Camp has residents worried about the theft of their outgoing mail.
The post office reported on December 28th that their lobby mail drop box was vandalized. The drop box was broken in a way that allowed thieves to access outgoing mail.
On December 14th the post office’s blue collection mail box was stolen. The collection box is valued at $500. It was removed with an unknown amount of mail inside.
No arrests have been made. The investigation is being handled by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s office.
Signs have been posted to alert the public that their mail may have been stolen. Individuals who are concerned about identity theft can fax or mail an Extended Fraud Alert Request to any of the three credit reporting bureaus. The alert is free with a law enforcement agency report that alleges mail theft.
