Tioga Road Will Be Rehabilitated

Yosemite, CA – A study is underway to decide the best way to rehabilitate 27 miles of Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park.

The National Park service has initiated an Environmental Assessment Study, and the public scoping period will continue through March 5th.

Officials say the existing roadway surface is in extremely poor condition, with no major maintenance repairs undertaken for over 40 years. The road shoulders and surface have deteriorated beyond minor repair due to poor drainage and subsurface erosion. There is also currently no designated roadside parking.

The public can submit comments about the project online at the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment site by clicking here.

Construction is scheduled for late 2012 with completion in 2016.
