Yosemite, CA — The non-profit Yosemite Fund has started a campaign to raise $1 million for youth programs in the park.
President Mike Tollefson says donations will fund a variety of programs in 2010 for children and young adults.
Crews with the California Conservation Corps, a program for young adults in their late teens and early 20’s, will repair several front country trails and more than 60 miles of backcountry trails.
Forty members of the Youth Conservation Corps, a program for 15-18 year olds, will spend eight weeks living in the park restoring 35 miles of trail, replacing 350 fire rings, and taking action to reduce the potential for fires in meadows.
A Student Conservation Association program will have college interns removing inappropriate trails and non-native plants, as well as scan 18,000 images from Yosemite’s archive, preserving them for future generations.
Junior Ranger educational programs for kids 7-13 will expand, helping to create more opportunities for youth.
The Yosemite Fund has donated over $55 million for than 300 projects in Yosemite since 1988. To learn more, go to www.yosemitefund.org.
