San Andreas, CA — “Drop Off Your Drugs” Day proved to be a tremendous success.
According to Sgt. Dave Seawell of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department that was the bottom line to Saturday’s effort to collect as many prescription medications as possible so they would not fall into the wrong hands.
The day long effort at five locations throughout Calaveras County was spawned by students selling prescription drugs on the Toyon Middle School campus in December.
Of all the pills turned in 769 were of a controlled substance nature with an approximate street value of $3,900. These are the pills that are most generally abused by both adults and teens.
Addictive medications that were turned in included morphine, vicodin, valium and soma. In addition one pint of codeine with a street value of $200 was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.
These medications will be safely destroyed by County personnel.
