Sonora, CA – The community came out to give Vietnam Veterans a long awaited "Welcome Home" celebration.
Washington St. was filled with American flags and cheering residents as Vietnam Veterans filed through during the first "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" parade Sunday afternoon.
Governor Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 771 this past September to proclaim March 30th as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. The City of Sonora and Tuolumne County later approved similar proclamations.
The parade opened with a five person color guard and the 59th Army Band. Senator Dave Cogdill followed behind in a car with Medal of Honor recipients Richard Pittman and Jon Cavaiani.
