Sacramento, CA — An investigation into the accuracy of PG&E’s new Smart Meters is set to begin shortly.
The California Public Utilities Commission says it has hired Texas based firm The Structure Group to conduct the independent evaluation. The CPUC has received over 600 complaints about Smart Meters, and most have been related to spiking electric bills.
The investigation will look into whether the Smart Meter system is measuring and billing electric usage accurately, both now and since the meter deployment began. It will also provide independent analysis of the high bill customer complaints, and compare the Smart Meter program’s policies and procedures with other industry leaders.
