Sacramento, CA — A record number of California voters are choosing not to side with a political party.
With the June 8 primary less than two months away, the Secretary of State’s Office says that 20.1 percent of registered voters are declining to state a party preference. During the last gubernatorial election in 2006, the number was 18.3 percent.
Over the past four years, the number of registered Democrats has increased from 42.7 percent to 44.6 percent, while the Republican Party has decreased from 34.6 percent to 30.8 percent.
