Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services is set to launch an emergency notification program, known as City Watch.
It is a reverse 911 system.
OES Coordinator Kathleen Rustrum says that if a particular neighborhood is in danger for any reason, (fire, flooding, etc.) county officials will be able to send a simultaneous phone message to landlines in the area.
The system will be tested out Wednesday morning as part of an emergency communications drill that will be carried out on Hwy 108. Residences and businesses in the area will receive a phone message with information about the drill.
The public is advised that County OES will continue to test the system from time to time in order to perfect its ability to effectively initiate emergency warnings in a timely manner.
Next year, the county plans to incorporate cell phones and text messaging.
