Sonora, CA — Students at Sonora High School were taught the consequences of D.U.I. driving.
A mock drill was held during the eight o’clock hour this morning in which two vehicles carrying students collided head-on. It is part of the annual “Every 15 Minutes” campaign that symbolizes that every 15 minutes someone dies in a D.U.I. accident.
The Sonora High students in the area of School Street were not told that this was a drill, and had to deal with the emotions of seeing their friends assisted by emergency personnel.
“There were a lot of tears and sober faces, so I think it grabbed their emotions,” says Todd Dearden, Sonora High Principal. “This drives home that you can’t get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking.”
Tomorrow Sonora High will hold an assembly to summarize the “Every 15 Minutes” program. Multiple area law enforcement agencies participated in today’s drill.
