Sonora, CA — In the race for Tuolumne County Sheriff, there has been discussion about the possibility of moving law and justice services to the Tuolumne General Hospital campus.
The idea has been proposed by candidate Tom Memmer as a way to cut costs. CAO Craig Pedro says it is not a realistic proposal.
Pedro says the TGH campus lacks roughly half of the needed square footage, and says available parking is inadequate.
Pedro also states that there are seismic structural issues with the buildings, and the existing campus does not provide any area for the recreational field required for a Juvenile Detention Facility. Pedro maintains that the property off Old Wards Ferry Road is the best location for the law and justice center project.
