Copperopolis, CA — Officials say a Cessna 172 aircraft that crashed in Calaveras County this morning was registered out of Oakdale.
According to Captain Eddie Ballard with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department, the pilot was fatally injured. The plane is registered to Michael Monzingo, but officials say it is still unclear who was piloting the plane.
It went down at approximately 9:15am in a field located between Copperopolis and Angels Camp. It was near Pool Station Road north of Highway 4.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. Officials say the pilot was the only person on board. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
