Elder Abuse Awareness Conference Next Wednesday

You are invited to the free Elder Empowerment Conference next week (Wednesday, June 12th) from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm inside of the Hotel & Conference Center at Black Oak Casino Resort.

Catherine Driver from the Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities and Eric Hovatter,  who is the Tuolumne County Assistant District Attorney, were both Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The conference deals with elder and dependent adult abuse awareness; Defining and knowing what elderly abuse is and how to properly report abuse.

The event will feature information by Barbara Aragon, MSW, Tribal Member Laguna Pueblo and Crow, Grant Technical Assistant, Suzanne Schultz, Project Director, San Joaquin County Family Justice Center, and Joe Rodrigues, Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman.

Local speakers include Kevin Day, Tuolumne Band of Me Wuk Indians and Master of Ceremonies, Eric Hovatter, Tuolumne County Assistant District Attorney.

An afternoon panel to answer questions regarding elder abuse will include the speakers and representatives from the Sonora Police Department, Tuolumne County Adult Protective Services, District Attorney’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Department, CalTel (internet scams) & Wells Fargo (financial scams).

According to Driver, this is not a sales seminar. The conference will include booths with local agency information, a continental breakfast, and lunch.

Tuolumne County Behavioral Health will provide continuing education units for BBS, BRN, and Addiction Specialist. Please register for continuing education units at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EEDJune12.

Doors will open at 7:45 am for check-in.
