Tuolumne, CA — The Tuolumne Band of Mi Wuk Indians and Black Oak Casino have received a statewide honor.
They are California’s top corporate sponsors of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and have received the organization’s 2010 Business Supporter of the Year Award. A ceremony was held this afternoon near the front entrance of Black Oak Casino.
“We’re very proud and very honored,” says Ron Patel, Black Oak Casino General Manager. “The Veterans always have a special place in our heart, and we’re overwhelmed to receive this recognition.”
The Tribe and Black Oak Casino are regular donors and support events put on by the local chapter 391 of Vietnam Veterans of America. “They’re always involved in our fundraisers,” says Cher Brandt, VVA Chapter 391 President.
Black Oak Casino has been active in supporting veterans, including sponsoring the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans parade. The parade, which was held on March 28th in Sonora, attracted around 7,000 spectators and more than 500 Vietnam-era veterans marched. In addition, the Casino has special nights for veterans, relies on VVA Chapter 391’s Color Guard for Veteran’s Day, and participates in the chapter’s annual golf tournament.
