Tuolumne County Holding Special Meeting On Fire Services

Sonora, CA — The board of supervisors in Tuolumne County will convene to discuss challenges projected in the years ahead when it comes to meeting the demand for fire and EMS services.

It is the focus of a special meeting that will get underway at 6pm today in the board meeting room in downtown Sonora.  The county hired an outside firm to conduct a study on the matter, and the results will be discussed at the meeting. The study notes that over the recent years there has been a notable decline in the number of volunteer firefighters, the cost to repair aging equipment is spiking each year, operating expenditures have been increasing by about 4.3-percent annually, and declining property values following the recession of 2009 has led to less revenue. In addition to the evening meeting, the board will meet in closed session, starting at 2pm, to discuss the potential appointment of a new Economic Development Director.
