Rancho Cordova Mayor Ken Cooley is the first Democrat to announce his candidacy. Cooley is also a consultant to the Senate Committee on Banking, Finance and Insurance.
Last week Republican Assemblyman Ted Gaines of Roseville announced his candidacy. The primary election will be held November 2nd. The top finishers from each party will square off on January 4th. The District One Senate area includes Calaveras County.
